ESPEJO - from the album ESTEBAN CRUJIDO The Flamenco Guitarist Plays And Sings From The Heart
'Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without' - Confucius
I studied guitar at the Royal College of Music attending guitar classes with Charles Ramirez, Carlos Bonell and John Williams and composition classes with Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, John Lambert and Philip Cannon. Through Cannon, I had a direct link with two of my greatest inspirations, Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams. I also attended flamenco guitar masterclasses with Juan Martin and studied piano and singing. While studying at the RCM, I was invited to meet the great guitarist, Andrés Segovia. After completing my education, I now write, perform and teach.
Inspired by multi-faceted artists ranging from David Bowie to Stockhausen, Dylan to Bach, I write and record under many names: Stevon Russell, Esteban Crujido and Europa 51. My music is described as ‘atmospheric’ and ‘beautiful’. I'm well known for being a guitarist and composer having composed and performed the solo guitar music for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s sell-out production of Venus and Adonis, which was featured as ‘Critic’s Choice’ in the Metro, November 2004.
I've written songs since I was a kid and sometimes I sing and play them......in my band, Stevon And The Well Wishers, I do just that! STRIATIONS, my Well Wishers project with composer/keyboardist extraordinaire, Richard Norris fuses my Nu Wave Punk Phlegmenco sounds with what I call, Psychascience visuals and of course Richard's amazing programming and sampling.
